Navigating Stress and Burnout in the Insurance Industry: Tips for Self-Care and Efficiency

In our current insurance environment, we hear from many of our members that they are stressed out and possibly even experiencing burnout.  There is no doubt that with the increased demands from your clients and the challenges of the ever-changing carrier landscape, these can lead to frustration and decreased job satisfaction.

Big I MN is getting involved where we can by helping inform, getting involved in legislation where possible, and supporting our members with time saving tools.  While there are many factors that contribute to this hard market, there are some factors that you may be able to control.

Set Boundaries

    • Define and stick to work hours.
    • Limit after-hours communication unless urgent.
    • Set clear client expectations.

Prioritize Self-Care

    • Take regular breaks and get enough sleep.
    • Exercise and maintain a healthy diet.

Leverage Technology & Delegate

    • Use CRM tools to automate follow-ups and client management.
    • Delegate or outsource tasks like admin work or marketing.

Maximize Efficiency

    • Apply the 80/20 rule—focus on tasks that drive the most results.
    • Use time blocking and batch similar tasks.
    • Automate routine processes where possible.

Reduce Stress

    • Take deep breaths before stressful interactions.
    • Schedule micro-breaks to reset your mind.
    • End your day by reviewing accomplishments and preparing for the next.
    • Learn to say no to low-value tasks.

I hope that some of these tips resonate with you and maybe you can choose one or two to try!

Support Your PACs

Two PACs. Two Reasons.

Big I Minnesota members are called upon to invest in their future by contributing to two funds, one for Minnesota state and one for federal action. Each serves a specific purpose. When you donate to one or both of our political action committees, you know you’re helping support the very people who are working to ensure your ease of doing business.
