Hi All!
As previously reported, the Reinsurance Program, which has successfully stabilized the individual heath insurance market for years, is up for renewal this year at the Minnesota Legislature. While there is bipartisan support for the Program, there is significant disagreement over how to fund the program which costs an estimated $500 million for 2025-2027.
Governor Walz and the Commerce Department want to fund Reinsurance Program by taxing not only health insurance, but also non-major medical products such as long-term care insurance, private paid family and medical leave insurance, long and short-term disability, dental, vision and supplemental insurance, such as critical illness policies. These products help Minnesotans protect their financial security and we should not ask them to pay more for this peace of mind to subsidize other insurance products.
We need your help convincing lawmakers to do the right thing by rejecting Governor Walz’s proposal and finding a more equitable funding source. Please follow the link below to send a letter to your legislators. The letter is especially crafted to present the agent’s perspective. Make your voice heard today!
If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me or April.
Thank you!
